Long before its institutional history, the 1950 Montreal Road site stood on the ancestral territory of the Mohawk people, part of the larger Haudenosaunee Confederacy. This deep history continues to shape the identity and future of the land, and the project is developed in close collaboration with the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne.
1979
Built by Transport Canada
Constructed in 1979 by Transport Canada, the complex was originally designed to support aeronautical training and air-traffic control operations.
1996
Transition to NAV CANADA
In 1996, the facility officially became the NAV Centre, a nationally and internationally recognized training campus. It also welcomed the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Control Operations (CFSACO), reinforcing its strategic role in Canada’s aviation history.
2022
Acquisition by Devcore
Devcore acquired the site in 2022, marking the beginning of a new era of innovation, openness, and revitalization along Cornwall’s waterfront.
Collaboration with Immigration Canada
During the transition period, a partnership with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada enabled the site to serve temporary accommodation initiatives — a major community-oriented contribution that reflects the social and human purpose of the place.
A Return to Its Core Mission: A Renewed Hotel & Conference Centre
Today, the complex has returned to its primary vocation, operating once again as an active hotel and conference centre, hosting events, training programs, and business stays.
And Now: The Vision for 1950 Montreal Road
Building on this legacy, we now embark on the next chapter: the creation of the 1950 Montreal Road district — a sustainable, inclusive, and contemporary riverfront masterplan that will transform this iconic site into a complete, connected community shaped for the future.
